Kathleen’s interest and training in dance began at the young age of 5 and spanned all years going forward culminating in May of 2000 with a BFA degree from New York University, Tisch School of the Arts. The Joan McDonald School of Dance in Ridgefield, Connecticut was the beginning…then New Canaan Ballet School; Stamford City Ballet; Connecticut Ballet School, Southport; The Walnut Hill School in Natick, Massachusetts; and NYU. While at NYU, Kathleen was selected to participate in a six-week summer experimental dance workshop in Salzburg, Austria. Previously, at age 14, she attended Dance Aspen in Snowmass, Colorado. Kathleen relished all aspects of her dance training and performance experience during her years of schooling. She is especially talented in both contemporary ballet and modern dance. She has been keenly influenced by the technique of the late José Limón. Professionally, Kathleen performed for a number of years with Prometheus, a well-known modern dance company, housed in the vibrant community of Cambridge, Massachusetts. In addition to numerous local performances on the stages of the Boston area, Kathleen traveled with the company to perform at Jacobs Pillow in western Massachusetts; New York City; Marseilles, France; and Quito, Ecuador. With Prometheus, Kathleen participated in local outreach programs where the company exposed public school children to the wonders of dance. She choreographed and taught classes to young dance students in the Boston area as well. In addition to dance, Kathleen’s interests and talents are varied and numerous… home and family, friends, animals, yoga, and her vegetable garden. She resides with her husband and four young children in Mt. Vernon, Ohio. She is delighted to be teaching modern dance at the Ballet Academy of Newark, Ohio.
